Achieving the goals you have set. Goal setting techniques are used by many successful individuals and achievers in all professions. Goals give you long-term vision and motivation. They focus your acquisition of knowledge and help you to organize your time and resources so that you can make the very most of your life.

Dream big dreams and as you dream, so you shall become. Falling into your hands will be placed the equivalent of all your thoughts. You will receive that which you have created, no more, no less. Remember to dream BIG! Norman Vincent Peale said it best when he stated, “When you affirm big, believe big, and pray big, big things happen.” Keep in mind that how big you think determines the size of your accomplishments. You are much bigger than you think you are. People who dare to aim high and work towards accomplishing their goals are BIG thinkers. They are experts in creating positive, forward-looking, optimistic images in their minds, and in the minds of others. They see clearly what they want to accomplish and they embrace their vision.

Don’t concern yourself too much with how you are going to achieve your goals after you have written an action plan for reaching them. Leave that completely to God. You just work diligently towards carrying out your action plan. Look at things not as they are, but as they can be. Visualization adds value to everything! A big goal-setter always visualizes what can be done in the future. A big goal-setter is not concerned with the present. The challenge of competing with yourself and winning is very rewarding. Don’t give up. The reward is great if you persist until you succeed!

However you decide to plan is up to you. The key is to plan. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. The majority of people meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of the ones that have failed. When they do not see instant results, they become discouraged and quit. There will be some failure, but that is okay. Temporary defeat does not mean permanent failure! It is in you to succeed. No one succeeds without overcoming obstacles and opposition. There would be no test-imony if there were no test.

Out of every adversity comes an equal or greater opportunity. Psychologists say that all humans are born with only two types of fear: the fear of falling, and the fear of loud noises. All other fears are learned. They come with knowledge or develop as a result of our experiences. They come from what we are taught or what we hear and see. In his book The Magic of Thinking Big, David Schwartz, Ph.D, writes on the subject of fear, the following: Oftentimes the only thing that holds us back from accomplishing great things is our fear – fear of failure, fear of what people might say or think, fear of how we are going to make it financially, and believe it or not, fear of success. When you overcome your fears, great and mighty things begin to happen for you. The most liberating, yet surprising thing about fear is that when you finally do overcome them, you realize that they were not as big as you made yourself think they were.

I once saw an acronym for the word fear that is so very fitting: FEAR=False Expectations Appearing Real. Once you overcome your “false expectations” and go after your goals with running shoes on, you will begin to do things you never imagined were possible. Fearlessness removes all fear. Now set your limits high and soar!

Strategically setting goals for your life can be incredibly motivating! As you get into the habit of developing and achieving goals in every area of your life, you will find that your self-confidence increases quickly. A sure way to increase your self-esteem is by setting and achieving the goals you have set.
